  I have eaten at Agave several times now since it came under new management, and there is good and bad to report. The atmosphere is a pleasant chic, modern and black; no Christmas lights and black velvet paintings. Service is friendly and prompt. The chips are good and plentiful and served with individual bowls of excellent, fresh salsa. The Xochitl soup is good, but not much for $6+ dollars: broth with a bit of chicken poured over rice and some tortilla strips. (For the real thing, if you are ever in Corpus, try Water Street Seafood Company's version: a hearty bowl of chicken soup over rice with big chunks of chicken and not-overcooked carrots, chickpeas, onions and squash served with sides of avocado slices and pico de gallo to add and hot sourdough bread.--a real meal for just under $4.) At lunch yesterday, one of our party ordered ceviche and it was the big disappointment of the day: Nothing like the traditional cooked-only-in-lime/citrus-juice concoction. This was fishy-tasting chunks of some sort of seemed-to-be-cooked seafood mixed in a white sauce like ranch dressing and served chalupa-style over tortillas. Weird, and not very tasty. No one at our table of 5 liked it. The Chalupa Supreme, on the other hand, was two very good bean and meat chalupas. Enchiladas disappointed another of our group because of "too much goopy cheese on top" instead of the "tradtional chili" with shredded cheese and sauteed onions instead of fresh. Personal taste, maybe, and he did say it wasn't bad. Made-at-the-table guacamole was OK, but short on lime, and really more like a quickly-mashed avocado salad. It doctored-up fine and everyone enjoyed, but was pricy for what you get. Finally, the margaritas are very good (both frozen and on the rocks), but ridiculously priced at nearly $7.50 for the house (nothing fancy) margarita in regular-sized water glasses.
